Dog trainer in Auburn, CA
A family-run dog training business built on experience, trust, and real-life results.
Led by Experience. Grounded in Real Dogs and Real Families.
Sierra K9 Academy is led by Bill Penner, an experienced lead trainer with decades of hands-on work helping dogs and owners build better communication. Bill’s work is shaped by time spent with real dogs in real environments: homes, neighborhoods, trails, public places, and family routines where behavior either holds together or breaks down.
The business is intentionally personal. Families are not passed through a generic system or left guessing after pickup. Dogs are trained with structure, owners are coached with clarity, and the goal is a calmer relationship that continues after the program is complete.
Our Training Philosophy
Good training gives dogs clarity. Sierra K9 uses clear communication, structure, accountability, and reward-based motivation within a balanced framework. Training is designed for everyday life, not only the training field, so dogs learn how to settle in the home, walk with confidence, respond around distractions, and integrate into the family with calmer expectations.

The Kind of Results We Care About
Success looks like better home life, easier walks, more reliable recall, greater owner confidence, and less chaos around daily routines. It does not mean promising perfection. It means building a clearer system so the dog and owner both know what to do next.
Rooted in the Sierra Foothills
Auburn, Grass Valley, Penn Valley, Nevada City, and the surrounding foothills offer a lifestyle where dogs are part of the family rhythm: trails, parks, patios, neighborhoods, and time outside. Sierra K9 Academy trains for that lifestyle with practical obedience and calm control that can travel with you.
